BJJ in Bangsar — what VCBJJ actually is

VCBJJ is a private Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym operating out of Jeet Academy KL on Jalan Telawi 3 in Bangsar. It was built specifically for working adults who want to learn BJJ properly — without the intimidating atmosphere, the heavy competition focus, or the pressure to train like a 22-year-old.

The gym is run by Vince Choo, a BJJ 3rd-Degree Black Belt who has been in martial arts since 1978 and has run his own gym independently since 1993. Every student is coached directly by Vince — not by assistants, not by senior students. Small classes make that possible.

Group classes run on Monday evenings (NoGi) and Thursday evenings (Gi), capped at 10 students per session. Private training is available Monday to Saturday by appointment.

Who trains here

The majority of students are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Consultants, lawyers, engineers, business owners, academics, pilots. People who are time-poor, take their health seriously, and want training that respects their intelligence and their body.

Most started with zero BJJ experience. No prior martial arts background is required or assumed — every concept is introduced from scratch.

Why Bangsar specifically

The location on Jalan Telawi 3 puts it in the middle of where a lot of KL's working professionals actually live and work. Bangsar is walkable, well-served by Grab, and easy to get to after work. The gym is on the same row as Alliance Bank and Affin Bank Bangsar, above Little Gigi Dental — straightforward to find.

The typical class

The first thing most people want to know is whether they'll get hurt. The honest answer: not if the room is run properly. At VCBJJ, the pace is set by the people in it — not by the youngest or most aggressive person on the mat. You will be physically challenged. You won't be thrown in over your head.

The second thing most people assume is that BJJ is complicated — a vast library of techniques you have to memorise before any of it makes sense. It isn't. The skills build on each other in a way that feels logical, not arbitrary. Most students are surprised by how quickly they start to recognise what's happening and why.

Sessions run for about an hour. You'll work with a partner, work through structured problems, and do live rolling — which is essentially sparring, but with rules that protect both people. There is no fixed group warm-up; arrive ready to move. The class is structured but not rigid. Vince coaches directly throughout — not through assistants, not through senior students telling you what to do.

What it gives you that most other physical training doesn't: your mind has no choice but to be completely present. You can't think about work when someone is trying to get past your guard. That enforced stillness is something students mention more than almost anything else.

What it costs

Group classes are RM 65 per session, pay-as-you-go. No registration fees. No contract. No grading fees. No admin fees. Private training is RM 245 per session, splittable between two people at RM 122.50 each.

There are no trial classes. This is a deliberate policy — it keeps the environment consistent for everyone already on the mat. The information on this site is enough to make a decision.

Is it right for you?

That depends on what you're looking for. If you want a large gym with lots of rolling partners and a competition team, VCBJJ is not the right fit. If you want focused, intelligent BJJ coaching in a small group where you're actually seen and coached — read the full information page before you reach out.
