The Return and Beyond

Back on the mats — the return after MCO

Training has resumed.

After months of MCO-enforced pause, being back on the mats is something I didn’t know how much I’d missed until it was there again. The first session back was physically harder than expected and psychologically simpler than I thought it would be. The body remembers. The mind settles. The mat is still the mat.

There’s a particular quality to returning after a long forced break that’s worth noting: everything feels slightly new again. Positions you’d drilled to automaticity feel deliberate and conscious again. That’s not a bad thing. It’s a reset — a chance to rebuild with more intention.

The student base that returned is smaller than before, which was predictable. Some people moved. Some moved on. Some are still waiting for things to feel more settled before committing to a regular schedule again. I understand all of those responses.

For those who are back: thank you for coming back. For those who are considering it: the room is ready when you are.
