Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu · Bangsar, KL

You’ve been meaning to start. This is the place.

At some point, most people over 40 look up and realise their body is losing the argument. Not dramatically — just gradually.

“There are no pressure or egos, and it’s a safe place to train if one intends to practice BJJ for a long period.”
— Johann M., Business Owner

I built VCBJJ because I think adults deserve a place that isn’t work and isn’t home — somewhere you’re not managing anyone, not answering to anyone, and not performing for anyone. Just a room where you can be challenged properly, learn something real, and nobody’s trying to prove anything to anyone.

Most of my students walked in not knowing what BJJ was. They stay because they found something they didn’t know they were looking for. Adult-focused BJJ in a private gym. Small classes, structured coaching, zero ego. Pay as you go.

Stiffer in the morning. Less recovery. Less patience for things that drain them with nothing returned.

If you’ve trained somewhere before and stopped because you kept getting hurt, you’re not alone either. Most of our students came to VCBJJ after that exact experience. They weren’t looking for a new gym. They were looking for a place that wouldn’t break them.

Training should build your body up — not wear it down. That sounds obvious. But if you’ve been in rooms where the pace was set by the youngest, strongest person on the mat, you already know how rare it is.

Not sure if this is for you?

Most of my students show up not knowing what they’re doing. Six months later they move differently, sleep better, and come back week after week — not because they’re chasing a belt, but because this is the one hour of their week that belongs entirely to them.

From the Room
Real people. Real results.

They’re doctors, professors, lawyers, pilots, business owners. They came for the training. They stayed for the room.

“BJJ may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I feel that this gym is the right place to start one’s journey. There are no pressure or egos, and it’s a safe place to train if one intends to practice BJJ for a long period. I’m more aware of my health and what I need to do/avoid to maintain it. It has helped my self-confidence, moreso when interacting with others in a business environment. BJJ is challenging in my opinion, but learning new skills and learning more about oneself is always fun and rewarding.”

“Vince Choo is an excellent instructor. He is knowledgeable, patient and genuinely invested in his students’ progress. His instructions are clear and structured, and he takes the time to ensure that the students understand the techniques; including why it works and what needs redressing when it is not working. His teaching forte is evolving and adapting to match the students’ ability to learn, and the student is steered to think for him/herself to better understand the technique.”

Beyond the Mat
More than training.

People come for the BJJ. But what keeps them here — year after year — is everything else.

This is a small gym on purpose. When you train with the same group of people every week, something happens that doesn’t happen in a big commercial class. You start looking out for each other. You learn how your training partner moves, what they’re working on, where they’ve improved. You notice when someone’s been away for a while. You check in.

My students train together, eat together, and travel together. Some of them have been with me for over a decade. That doesn’t happen because of technique. That happens because of trust.

I’ve run gyms long enough to know that the training is only half of it. The other half is having a place where you belong — somewhere that isn’t work and isn’t home, where you can switch off, be challenged, and be around people who are genuinely glad you showed up.

If you’re looking for a hobby that actually gives back more than it takes — physically, mentally, socially — this might be the room you’ve been looking for.
